Georgia declares readiness to mediate in Azerbaijan-Armenia peace talks

Tbilisi is ready to act as a mediator between Yerevan and Baku again, Georgian Foreign Minister Ilya Darchiashvili stated on June 16, speaking in parliament.

"Georgia's foreign policy towards neighbouring countries is focused on balanced partnership relations and mutually beneficial cooperation," the minister said, AzVision.az reports citing Georgia's First Channel reports.

He noted that Georgia is working intensively to strengthen peace and stability in the region.

"Our goal is to promote peace, stability, good neighbourliness and economic development in the region, we are working intensively in this direction and it is one of our main priorities. In the framework of the Peaceful Neighborhood Initiative, Georgia has taken effective steps towards a constructive dialogue between the two neighbouring countries," the minister said.

"We express readiness to continue our engagement in this direction in the future as we believe that Georgia plays a natural role in bringing peace and stability to the region. We express our readiness to make our valuable contribution at any time. We all well remember the personal involvement of the Prime Minister of Georgia in this process and the concrete results that his efforts have brought to bring our two southern neighbours closer and, so to speak, to improve relations," Darchiashvili added.
